PACIFIC CULLEN
10 February 2018

As PACIFIC CULLEN lines up for her richest assignment to date in the $20,000 Kevin & Kay Seymour Evolution Series Final tonight at Club Menangle the owners of this lovely filly Alex Smith, Russell Woods and Robyn Kruk are excited about the future of this filly purchased at the end of her 2YO season from Barbara Tannous. Will they be on track to cheer the filly on tonight, you bet they will be!
Our Tale today centres on the team of horses that Alex Smith and Russell Woods have built up over many years of involvement in harness racing.

Prior to the purchase of PACIFIC CULLEN, Alex and Russell had purchased the dam of the filly that being LA PACIFIC from Andrew Daniels. LA PACIFIC already having produced a $100,000 in stakes winner and she seems set to follow in the footsteps of her dam LA SAINT and her granddam LA STACE both of which were producers of many top line performers. Currently Alex and Russell are having the half sister to PACIFIC CULLEN by Heston Blue Chip broken in and the mare has produced A ROCKNROLL DANCE filly this season.

PACIFIC CULLEN (or “Lilly” as she is known) has joined the team that Alex and Russell have built up over many years of involvement in harness racing. Russell starting out in the late 60’s helping Ned Smith with LAUGHING PRINCE and Alex in the late 70’s firstly with horses with Fran Donohue and later with Dennis Bale.

Alex and his brother-in-law Russell have a small band of broodmares that they keep between Russell’s property at Theresa Park and SUCCESS STUD. In addition to their own mares EYE BETTA FLY, RESPECTED, MILLWOOD CHARLIE NZ and OH THISGIRLISONFIRE NZ they have an interest in the outstanding mare LIBERTYBELLE MIDFREW NZ in partnership with their good friends Mary and Jackie Gibson.
Apart from their breeding interests the pair also race a number of horses with Kerryann Turner including ABETTORROSE, HOT FLUSH, OUR QUINN and POMPIDOU. They also have WEONA LUKE with Dean Cernovskis.

When asked their biggest thrill to date in harness racing the answer is simple - POMPIDOU running second in the 2015 NSW BREEDERS CHALLENGE FINAL. A horse they bred and own and that has now won in excess of $100,000 in prizemoney.

With their team of broodmares and racing stock the future looks very exciting and that great moment may well be surpassed!
