HBNSW MEMBERS - DEAN & RIKKI CERNOVSKIS

1 December 2017

When DROP THE HAMMER lined up for the Kevin & Kay Seymour Evolution Series heat at Newcastle last night Dean and Rikki Cernovskis were hoping the handsome 3YO would break through for his first win. The gelding had already run four places from five starts with one of those placing’s at Group 3 level. DROP THE HAMMER finished a gallant 2nd and now progresses to the $20,000 Final at Club Menangle on the 9th of December. The thrill and satisfaction of seeing a horse they bred continue to perform well certainly drives the couple to continue on their breeding path.

Dean and Rikki bred DROP THE HAMMER in partnership with Rikki’s parents John and Leslie O’Sullivan. The gelding is by BETTORS DELIGHT USA out of the well performed Cernovskis trained DANIELA HANTUCHOVA NZ. When asked Dean and Rikki said it had always been their plan to send the mare to a top stallion as she is out of a very strong family. The resultant foal was DROP THE HAMMER “a perfect little fella”. He looked the part from day one and when he was put through the APG sale in 2016 and sold for $105,000 this gave Rikki and Dean their biggest thrill they have had in the sport to date! Daniela has also produced an ART MAJOR colt that is now a 2YO and she is due to drop a SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE foal.

Rikki and Dean have certainly embraced breeding in NSW with a number of mares they have raced over the years producing a team of exciting young horses. FAR TOO RUSTY has a SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE filly at foot, a WELL SAID colt going to the 2018 APG Sale and 2YO AMERICAN IDEAL filly that is showing promise.

HARLEQUIN BROMAC is in foal to WELL SAID and GIFT OF LOVE a WESTERN TERROR colt.

It would seem that there are exciting times ahead for the Gunning based couple with their team of broodmares that have made the successful transition from the track to the breeding barn.
